NasoPharyngeal Airway ( NPA )

Nasopharyngeal airway, also known as NPA, nasal trumpet (because of the flared end), nasal hose, is a type of airway adjunct, it is a tube that is designed to be inserted into the nasal passage to provide a way open respiratory. . When a patient becomes unconscious, the jaw muscles usually relax and may allow the tongue to slide back and block the airway. This necessitates airway management, and an NPA is one of the tools available. The purpose of the flared end is to prevent the device from being lost in the patient's nose.
 
Characteristics
An oxygen mask or bag mask ventilation can be applied on top if necessary
It prevents the epiglottis that covers the tongue in patients with low GCS.
It tolerates better than oropharyngeal airways in more attentive patients.
Women of average height require a size 6 NPA, and men of average height a size 7 NPA
